sports_soccer Football Journey — A Club Career in Review
Gamba Osaka (2018–2021)
A glittering start, signing a professional contract as a year-early prospect in his second year of high school. However, playing time proved hard to come by, and he went through a series of loan spells at multiple clubs.
FC Twente (2019–2020 / Loan)
His first taste of football abroad. At just 19, he posted 17 appearances and 5 goals in the Dutch Eredivisie, giving him the confidence that he could make it overseas.
Sint-Truiden → FC Juniors OÖ (2020–2021)
A difficult spell of rapid successive moves through Belgium and the Austrian second division. The fact that he never gave up during this period would later prove to be the foundation of his breakthrough.
LASK Linz (2021–2023)
His talent blossomed in Austria. In his second season, 2022–23, he recorded 14 goals in 30 appearances and was named to the league's Team of the Year — performances that caught the eye of a major French club.
Stade de Reims (2023–present)
He made the move to France for a transfer fee of approximately €12 million (around 1.6 billion yen). The presence of his senior teammate Junya Ito at the same club was a source of comfort, and he has grown steadily — 4 goals in 25 appearances in his first season, 11 goals in 32 appearances in his second. In the 2025–26 season, he is spearheading the club's push for promotion back to the top flight in Ligue 2.
Close Teammates
Junya Ito (Stade de Reims)
The teammate Nakamura has described as "like an older brother" and "a senior, but now also my best friend." The sight of the two stretching together at national team training has become a talking point among fans, earning them the nickname "the Reims brothers, inseparable wherever they go."
Takefusa Kubo (Real Sociedad)
A year younger, yet a fellow soldier who has fought alongside Nakamura in youth national team setups since their teens. Some of Nakamura's international goals have come directly from Kubo's passes, and Nakamura has said: "I get this sense that something's going to come from him, and playing alongside him genuinely excites me."
Yukinari Sugawara (AZ)
A peer of the same age who has shared youth national team football with Nakamura since their teenage years.

The photography took place across 8 countries over approximately 2,190 days.
Launch events are also planned at Shibuya TSUTAYA and Umeda Tsutaya Bookstore.

info Editor's Note
Behind the glamorous label of "the face of Japan's national team," Keito Nakamura is a player who has known real hardship — signing a professional contract in high school, then navigating loan spell after loan spell. Having made his way through four countries — the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, and France — it may well be the adaptability and mental strength forged along that journey that are his greatest assets today.
A boy who grew up on the shores of Lake Teganu, now shining on the stage of France, and heading for the grand stage of WC 2026. His approach to life — living naturally, as himself — is one we'll be keeping a close eye on.
