The WC 2026 group stage final matchday is finally kicking off on Thursday, June 25, starting with six matches across Group B, Group C, and Group A. With kickoffs at JST 4:00, 7:00, and 10:00, we've broken down the "key watch points" for each time slot alongside the latest standings. Qualification scenarios, the calculations separating 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and the fate of Group C — which has implications for Japan too — are all covered here. Consider this your primer for three sleepless nights in a row.

Standings and conditions are based on this site's tallies as of June 24, 2026 (after Matchday 2). Since both matches in each group kick off simultaneously in the final matchday, the result of the concurrent fixture can dramatically shift the standings.

Current Standings (after Matchday 2)

PosTeamPtsGDGF
1Canada4+67
2Switzerland4+35
3Bosnia and Herzegovina1-32
4Qatar1-61

Switzerland × Canada — The winner takes 1st place

A head-to-head clash with both sides level on 4 points. Simply put, whoever wins finishes 1st.

  • From Switzerland's perspective, a win means an uncontested 1st-place finish. Even in defeat, with a goal difference of +3 they are well clear of 3rd place and below, meaning 2nd place is highly likely unless they lose by a heavy margin and Bosnia or Qatar wins big in the concurrent match.
  • And if it's a draw, both sides advance to the knockout stage (5 points — Bosnia and Qatar can reach a maximum of only 4 points).
  • Host nation Canada will naturally be targeting a win and 1st place. In the previous match they demolished Qatar 6-0, and their goal difference of +6 is the best in the group. Star striker Jonathan David, who scored 2 goals in that match, will be one to watch.

Bosnia and Herzegovina × Qatar

Both sides on 1 point. With the top two (Switzerland and Canada) set to fill both spots with a draw or better, qualification is an extremely remote prospect. Even so, this will be a final match played with pride — with a first-ever World Cup win on the line for both sides.

Current Standings (after Matchday 2)

PosTeamPtsGDGF
1Brazil4+34
2Morocco4+12
3Scotland301
4Haiti0-40

Scotland × Brazil

  • Scotland (3 points) will almost certainly qualify with a win. Reaching 6 points would be enough to secure a top-2 finish even if Morocco beat Haiti in the concurrent match. A draw or defeat, on the other hand, would leave Scotland relying on others — hoping to sneak through as one of the best 3rd-place finishers. Their opponents are Brazil, the footballing powerhouse — just how much they can push the favorites will be the highlight.
  • Brazil (4 points, GD +3), meanwhile, are likely through with a draw or better. However, an unexpected defeat — particularly by 2 or more goals — combined with a Morocco win could plunge them down to 3rd place, making this a genuine pressure match.

Morocco × Haiti

  • Morocco (4 points, GD +1) will want to pile on goals against bottom-side Haiti and seal 1st place. They are level on points with Brazil but trail on goal difference, so topping the group requires a big win combined with Brazil dropping points. Saibari, who has scored 2 goals so far, will be the focal point of the attack.
  • One thing worth paying close attention to here is the Round of 32 draw. Group C's 1st-place team faces Group F's 2nd-place team, while Group C's 2nd-place team faces Group F's 1st-place team (expected to be the Netherlands). Both Morocco and Brazil will be targeting 1st place to avoid an early clash with the Netherlands. And Group C's 1st-place team meets Group F's 2nd-place team — so if Japan advance as Group F runners-up, the winner of Group C — Brazil or Morocco — would be Japan's Round of 32 opponent. For anyone cheering on Japan, the final Group C standings are absolutely not to be missed.

Current Standings (after Matchday 2)

PosTeamPtsGDGF
1Mexico6+33
2South Korea302
3Czech Republic1-12
4South Africa1-21

Czech Republic × Mexico

  • Mexico (6 points) have already secured qualification. However, if they lose this match while South Korea win simultaneously, they could potentially be overtaken on goal difference and drop to 2nd. To lock in 1st place, they will surely be aiming for at least a draw.
  • Czech Republic (1 point) must win or even a 3rd-place finish looks unlikely. Against a Mexico side that are championship contenders, this will be a truly desperate battle.

South Africa × South Korea — Personally, a must-watch

  • South Korea (3 points) could fall to 3rd if they lose while Czech Republic win simultaneously. On top of that, depending on goal difference against South Africa, elimination in 4th place is also a real possibility. This is truly a match they cannot afford to lose.
  • South Africa (1 point) are aiming for their first win of the tournament. A victory here keeps alive their hopes of ultimately advancing as a 3rd-place qualifier. With intricate points and goal difference calculations in play, this promises to be a thrilling 90 minutes — exactly what the final matchday is all about.
